  • Australian fintech AirPay and bill payment automation company Gobbill to launch a new app feature for 1+ million users.
  • The “ToPay” feature is available via Chinese media app Today Australia, allowing Australian bills to be paid with WeChat Pay and Alipay.

Melbourne, Australia 24 March, 2020 – Fraud detection and payment automation company Gobbill and Chinese mobile payment company AirPay, have embedded Alipay and WeChat payments into a popular media platform to allow users to pay Australian bills with China’s favourite payment methods.

Over one million users will have the capability to pay Australian bills with WeChat Pay and Alipay, with a market-first feature called “ToPay” in popular Chinese media app, Today Australia.

The ‘ToPay’ feature will allow Today Australia users pay and categorise bills including phone, utilities, school fees, council rates and more, within a single app.

Users will also receive rewards scheme, such as discount meals via popular Asian food delivery platform Hungry Panda.

AirPay Head of FinTech Simon Tse said: “We are thrilled to announce our industry collaboration with Gobbill to provide Australian-Chinese a seamless and secure way to pay bills via smartphone. Our new payment platform “ToPay” helps us open new verticals, in addition to our wide QR payments coverage in high-end retail brands such as Gucci, Victoria’s Secret, Sneakerboy, Champion, Glue Store owned by Kering group, Valiram group, LRG group, Hanes Brands and Next Athleisure”.

“Chinese sales across retail are down 30-50 per cent this month, and we predict it will be a difficult financial year for many companies. Our next goal is to drive one million Chinese consumers to merchants via the everyday usage of our app” said Tse.

Gobbill CEO and co-founder Shendon Ewans said: “The timing is right to bring the two technologies together to process Chinese payments in Australia. We expect the convenience of making payments through a media app and associated rewards as an advantage.”

The payments function will be enabled by Gobbill as part of the company’s growth into the broader payments sector, particularly in connecting global markets with seamless and secure payments. Using AI automation, Gobbill forensically extracts data from invoices, checks for fraud and executes the payments.

ATO recognises fintech start-up Gobbill as Early Stage Innovation Company

May 16th, 2017 Posted by Gobbill News, Media Releases, Startup 0 thoughts on “ATO recognises fintech start-up Gobbill as Early Stage Innovation Company”

MELBOURNE, Australia – 16 May 2017: ATO recognises fintech start-up Gobbill as Early Stage Innovation Company.

The Australian Taxation Office has ruled that technology start-up company Gobbill satisfies the requirements to be an Early Stage Innovation Company (ESIC).

Gobbill is a new digital service that automates and centralises all bill payments, giving users a streamlined solution offering greater security and increased control of their finances. The start-up is sponsored by Microsoft’s BizSpark program and is also a partner of Stay Safe Online, a Commonwealth initiative to protect Australians from cyber related crimes. New users can sign up for a free account at gobbill.com.au

The ATO ruling states, “Gobbill’s email bill innovation is the first holistic product that provides end-to-end processing using a digital service platform that includes the detection of fraudulent bills… It has been identified as having a wider global addressable market.”

“We are very pleased to receive this positive ruling from the tax office,” says Gobbill co-founder Shendon Ewans, “Our experience dealing with the ATO for this ruling has been very positive. They seem to be supportive of innovation and entrepreneurship for the Australian start-up eco-system.”

Although ESIC was introduced in the 2016 Budget, many investors and startups are unclear of their eligibility for tax benefits. “The ESIC rules, whilst offering major incentives to start-ups and investors alike are complex.” says EY’s R&D and Technology Incentives Partner Mark Chan. “Given this complexity and the ongoing compliance requirements, startups and investors should obtain legal and tax advice to ensure they are applying the rules correctly.”

Australian start-ups and investors interested about the tax incentives for investing in early stage innovation companies can refer to ATO’s website “Tax incentives for early stage investors” or contact their legal and tax advisors.

Australian tech start-up Gobbill debuts new digital service to manage bill payments.

MELBOURNE, Australia – 28th April 2017:  Australian tech start-up Gobbill debuts new digital service to manage bill payments.

Australian-based digital start-up Gobbill debuts a new digital service to automate and centralise all bill payments, giving users a streamlined solution offering greater security and increased control of their finances. The start-up is sponsored by Microsoft’s BizSpark program and is also a partner of Stay Smart Online, a Commonwealth initiative to keep Australians safe online.

With Australians losing over $229 million[1] to billing scams each year, Gobbill protects users from fake email bill scams. The new service offers users the ability to directly send their email bills to Gobbill for safe and secure payments linked to nominated debit or credit card.

Gobbill founders Shendon Ewans and Quentin Marsh were inspired to build the digital service as a way of managing their own busy lives. “We decided to create Gobbill because we were finding it increasingly time-consuming to manage bill payments. There had to be a better way to manage bills and still be in control of our payments,” said Mr. Ewans.

For those who want to be in control of payments but are time-poor, the new digital service provides a convenient solution. Users simply forward their email bills to their @gobbill.com email address. The service automates every step through to payment. Gobbill helps users to receive their pay on-time discounts, avoid late fees, guard against bill scams and much more.

Tech start-up company Gobbill receives Angel round investment for automated email bill payment.

MELBOURNE, Australia – 26 October 2016: Tech start-up company Gobbill receives Angel round investment for automated email bill payment.

Australian-based tech start-up Gobbill Pty. Ltd. has received Angel investment from Gan Venture Capital Pty Ltd (GVC) for its new digital service to automate paying email bills. The founders of Gobbill identified that there was no technology or service offering to help consumers and businesses to conveniently and safely pay email bills.

Organisations are sending more bills to their customers via email. At the same time, there is an increasing number of email scams each year. Avoiding these scams is getting harder. Many people also want to be in control of monitoring and paying their bills and do not want to use direct debit options. Gobbill is a new service that addresses this customer need.

GVC chairman Galen Gan says he is pleased to have made an early stage investment into Gobbill to further fund research, development and commercialisation of an innovative tech start-up. “It was an easy investment decision to take after seeing how Gobbill would save me so much time in personal and business bill payments. I personally experience many of the payment and accounting difficulties the Gobbill solution solves and I’m sure many other people would also benefit from this service.” said Mr. Gan.

Gobbill’s co-founder Quentin Marsh states, “GVC is the right investment partner for us and shares the vision of where Gobbill is going.” Gobbill aims to provide a trusted service to households and small businesses across Australia. Although the company will be based in Australia, the service is set to expand rapidly into the international market.
